Trees, campfires, and man’s best friend. Sounds great right? And a little daunting. So here are some tips for your first trip to the great outdoors with your pup.
If you’ve read my last few blogs, you’ll know Chloe and I took our first solo tent camping trip this month. There are a few training tips that helped make our first trip a success.
The first is to make sure your dog’s recall is on point. Whether they’re on or off leash, you’re bound to run into a lot of people, animals and other distractions that your dog doesn’t see often.
Daily training is so important. Making sure you’re rewarding your dog for staying checked in on walks or hikes, especially when there are distractions.
Second, camping is a good time to make sure your dog isn’t getting into the trash or table surfing. Camping trips are filled with s’mores and other great food (for you, not your dog), so keeping an eye on the table and the trash can are important to keeping your dog safe and healthy.
The great outdoors should be a fun and safe place for you to enjoy with your pup. It’s also a great opportunity to put training into practice.
